From Banking and Insurance to Aviation
Calm and collected best describes Denis Oballa, our Data Analyst for the last three years.
The third born in a family of six siblings was born and raised in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
He started his schooling life by attending Herman Gmeiner Primary School (SOS).
His good primary school performance earned him a spot at Thurdibuoro Secondary School for his high school education.
His parents always encouraged him not to be afraid to try new things which greatly influenced his career choice.
Dennis toiled day and night and performed extremely well in his KCSE to get a position at the University of Eldoret to study Actuarial Science.
However, life after school was not a walk in the park as jobs were not forthcoming.
He remembers he once did a research study for 2 months on oncology in Western Kenya in the pursuit of gaining experience to kick-start his career.
Dennis unsuccessfully job hunted for 6 months, before getting his first job as an intern in an insurance company for 6 months.
His commitment and dedication saw him gain marketable skills that enabled him to secure a job at a Credit Reference Bureau as a data analyst for 3 years.
He later switched careers to work in a money lending company, as a Data analyst for a year.
One day as he was working, he heard from a colleague that 748 Air Services was advertising and looking for a data analyst. He immediately applied and was lucky to be called in for an interview, and he later got the job after emerging the best.
As a data analyst, Dennis works in the maintenance department ensuring reliability. His daily tasks entail checking on how reliable our aircrafts are and ensuring they remain reliable.
He is glad and prides himself on simplifying some procedures that improve the quality of data collection at 748 Air Services.
Dennis says he loves his job, as he gets to work on many different things most of the time, and the fact that it is not monotonous.
He has since learnt a lot of things in aviation coming from the banking and insurance industry. He adds that switching to a new job industry has been an exciting experience for him as he gets to analyze data on aircrafts.
He advises the youth and anyone willing to join the aviation industry, to do their research on what exactly they would want to pursue and especially in terms of their career progression.
Dennis shares that his biggest motivation is the big urge to achieve something he wants.
During his free time, you are likely to find Dennis watching movies, running, and playing football.
Dennis says he loves the 748 Air Services culture. “The best thing is you can freely share your ideas and thoughts and someone will listen to you. Employees interact freely from the top management to juniors. ”
